Frequently asked questions
Every commercial motor carrier operating in the US must register with the FMCSA and is assigned a USDOT number. Search by that number directly above, or search by a carrier's legal name, DBA, city, or state to find its registration details, operating status, and safety information.
A USDOT number is a unique identifier the FMCSA assigns to a carrier for safety monitoring and compliance records. An MC (Motor Carrier) number is a separate number tied to a carrier's operating authority — its legal permission to transport goods or passengers for hire across state lines. Most for-hire interstate carriers have both, but not every carrier with a USDOT number also has an MC number.
